The Japanese Red Cross Society (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Atsushi Seike) held the 71st 'Happiness Flower Lily of the Valley' donation ceremony at Musashino Red Cross Hospital (Musashino-shi, Tokyo) on May 26, receiving lily flowers and bookmarks from the ANA Group.
The presentation of lilies began in 1952, when the Youth Red Cross of Iwate Prefecture visited hospital beds with lilies they had picked themselves to encourage patients. Since 1956, the ANA Group has cooperated with this initiative as part of its social contribution activities, marking the 71st year this year.
Donated today were 88 bouquets of lilies, 2,520 cut lilies, and 15,030 'bookmarks' with the refreshing scent of lily of the valley, all cultivated near Chitose City, Hokkaido. The lovely, fragrant messages from the lilies, which carry the floral meaning of 'happiness,' are filled with wishes from ANA Group employees for the happiness and health of the patients and are highly appreciated by patients and their families every year.
Patients who received the bookmarks expressed their joy with comments about the design, such as 'It's lovely,' and 'It smells wonderful.'
Donation ceremonies will also be held at other hospitals (excluding some), and the items will be delivered sequentially starting today to users at 51 Red Cross hospitals and related facilities nationwide.
