NEC will sequentially begin offering an integrated security package targeting semiconductor manufacturers, for whom strengthening security measures is urgent due to the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, starting in fiscal year 2026. This package comprehensively covers the OT domain (facilities, fab (Note 1), fab systems (Note 2)) and IT domain (MES and business systems) of semiconductor factories, providing end-to-end support from consulting to design, implementation, operation, and monitoring.
In recent years, cyberattacks targeting manufacturing sites have been on the rise. The "OT Security Guidelines for Semiconductor Device Factories (Note 3)" issued by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in October 2025 outlines guidelines for factory security measures necessary to achieve the highest level of defense against the most advanced attackers (state-sponsored groups (APTs)), with the aim of protecting "maintenance of production targets," "protection of confidential information," and "maintenance of semiconductor quality."
Against this backdrop, NEC has developed an integrated security package that reflects the requirements of these guidelines, combining the expertise of NEC Facility Management in facility management with the knowledge gained from NEC Security's operational monitoring experience for government agencies and critical infrastructure. Key features include proposal of countermeasures leveraging NEC's in-house security expertise, and high-precision, efficient attack simulations and risk visualization utilizing advanced technologies developed by NEC Security's AI Security Center. Furthermore, by integrating with CyIOC (Note 4), continuous monitoring and analysis of the OT domain enable early detection of threats and prompt, appropriate response. Through this, NEC provides comprehensive support to simultaneously improve the business continuity and security efficiency of semiconductor manufacturers. Under its value creation model "BluStellar (Note 5)," NEC transforms business models through cross-industry knowledge and cutting-edge technology to solve societal issues and customers' management challenges. Its core technology, cybersecurity, provides security services centered around CyIOC, under the slogan ".JP (Protecting Japan's Cyber Space)," to respond to the increasingly complex and sophisticated threats of cyberattacks. Moving forward, NEC will continue to contribute to the realization of a safe and secure digital infrastructure in Japan by leveraging advanced technologies and cybersecurity intelligence.
