[Lecture Summary]
Ammonia is attracting attention as an energy source for a decarbonized society because it does not emit carbon dioxide upon combustion and has excellent transport and storage characteristics of hydrogen energy.
The 7th Strategic Energy Plan aims to create a domestic annual ammonia demand of 30 million tons by 2050.
IHI is advancing technology development and business expansion to build a value chain including the production and utilization of ammonia. Gas turbines, boilers, and internal combustion engines are already in the social implementation stage.
In this lecture, the characteristics of ammonia, the current status of the entire value chain from production to utilization, and future prospects will be introduced.
In addition, challenges in social implementation such as safety and cost, as well as their outlooks, will be explained in detail.
