[Lecture Overview]

Nichimo Co., Ltd. has a history of approximately 45 years, beginning with coho salmon farming in Miyagi Prefecture. However, rising seawater temperatures in recent years have made the farming period and production volume unstable. This issue is not limited to coho salmon; yellowtail and red sea bream farming, particularly in Western Japan, are also facing unstable production environments due to recent environmental changes. Consequently, we turned our attention to land-based aquaculture in 2020. In cooperation with Kyushu Electric Power and others, we established the land-based aquaculture company Fish Farm Mirai LLC and began selling 'Mirai Salmon' in 2023, currently achieving stable production and receiving high praise from customers. In this lecture, we will explain the significance of land-based aquaculture, its challenges, and the keys to success, focusing primarily on our past experiences with failure.
