About the Japan Package Design Awards / JAPAN PACKAGE DESIGN AWARDS
Organized by the Japan Package Designers Association (JPDA), this competition is open to public submissions and aims to recognize excellence in package design. Professionals in the field gather to evaluate the creativity and design quality of submitted works.
Held biennially since 1985, this marks the 22nd edition of the awards, which aim to elevate the social status of package design and celebrate outstanding achievements.
A key feature is the evaluation from a designer's perspective, emphasizing not only functional aspects such as production, distribution, and environmental impact, but also design value and product development insights.
From approximately 1,000 entries, a rigorous selection process conducted by member judges and external special judges determines the Grand Prix, category-specific Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards, as well as Special Judge Awards.
Awarded and shortlisted works are published in official publications, and winning entries are exhibited in touring exhibitions (planned in Tokyo and other cities). Additionally, Grand Prix and Gold award-winning works are preserved in the association's physical archive.
