This summer, Louis Vuitton is releasing a new edition of its "City Guide Arles" in collaboration with the Arles International Photo Festival. Featuring contributions from three guest writers—Anne-Sylvie Bameule, Julie Gautier, and Pauline Capitani, who lead the French publisher Actes Sud—this guide, with its many previously unpublished photographs, pays homage to the city of Arles, its inhabitants, and photography. During the festival, Louis Vuitton will open a pop-up bookstore at "Le Buste et l’Oreille," a wine shop in the heart of Arles, offering books and exhibitions, as well as talks and signing sessions. Additionally, two new photo books will be added to the "Fashion Eye" collection.

Since 2018, the "Louis Vuitton City Guide" series has published new editions paying tribute to Arles, a city in the Camargue region, and its world-renowned festival. This guide includes an illustrated overview of the Arles International Photo Festival, along with an unpublished portfolio by Flore-Aël Surun and Guillaume Blot of the photography collective Tandem Flou, capturing the city of Arles and its surroundings, with a focus on imagery. The book will be available in bookstores and can be enjoyed for free from the App Store during the festival period.

This summer, previously unpublished photographs by Guillaume Blot will be exhibited at "Le Buste et l‘Oreille." This series captures "Bob’s," another iconic spot in the Camargue, a restaurant that is a place filled with memories, where regulars form a lively and warm community, cherishing unpretentious gatherings and wood-fired cooking. This space, which tells the long history of bullfighting and shows, is still imbued with the memories of Robert Boyer, known as Bob.

Here, the past and present constantly blend, and weekend lunches with a single menu often evolve into grand celebrations with musicians and singers. Louis Vuitton Editions is a pioneer in this field, publishing approximately 100 titles through various series dedicated to travel, art, and fashion, including "City Guides," "Travel Books," "Fashion Eye," and travelogues. Travel is also deeply intertwined with the art de vivre (rich lifestyle), and Louis Vuitton will open a pop-up bookstore at the wine shop "Le Buste et l’Oreille" in the heart of Arles during the festival, hosting talks and signing sessions with authors and photographers.

The "Louis Vuitton City Guide" series has explored major cities around the world for over 20 years, capturing trends and observing the changes that shape urban landscapes. It has introduced fashion, design, contemporary art, gastronomy, and culture from over 40 cities, including Paris, New York, London, and Tokyo, from a unique perspective. Writers and guest contributors from all fields introduce their favorite hotels, selected restaurants, distinctive fashion addresses, and iconic historical sites based on their individual sensibilities.

In conjunction with the Arles International Photo Festival, which runs until October 4 (Sunday), Louis Vuitton is adding two new titles to its "Fashion Eye" collection: "Ibiza" by Lachlan Bailey and "Bucharest" by Paul Kooiker. Lachlan Bailey captures the timeless hedonism of Ibiza, affectionately known as the "White Isle," while Paul Kooiker meticulously portrays Bucharest, also called the "Paris of the Balkans," imbuing their photographs of each city with sensuality and precision.

"Fashion Eye Ibiza"

Lachlan Bailey, who frequented Ibiza in his youth, seeking refuge from the secular world, returns to the island in the off-season with a fresh perspective. The spirit of freedom that has blown through the island since the hippie era gently permeates each timeless image, often captured at dusk. These images depict supple, sun-kissed bodies resting or moving, surrendering to the rhythm of the waves and the energy of the clubs. This island, part of the Balearic Islands, has two faces, and Bailey portrays both sides without reservation. He frames the tranquility and the bustle, the bougainvillea and the salt flats, the farms and fishermen's huts, as well as the striking silhouettes of Es Vedrà island and the painter Antonio Villanueva, all with equal attention. The textures in his photographs express the wildness and enduring spirit of this bohemian haven.

Lachlan Bailey

Born in Melbourne in 1974, Lachlan Bailey is currently based in New York and Lisbon. After studying at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, he began his photography career in London before moving his practice to New York in 2007. With roots in Australia, he has a particular interest in warm light and island landscapes. He possesses a keen sensibility for the beauty of the human body and skin texture, rendering them within meticulously composed scenes that blend naturally. Influenced by photographers Bill Henson and Lee Friedlander, and cinematographer Sven Nykvist, he favors narrative series. In 2020, he published the visual book "Natasja in Corales" (FRAME, 2020) in collaboration with Erik Torstensson, co-founder of the fashion brand FRAME. He regularly contributes to "Vogue," "Harper's Bazaar," and "WSJ" magazines, and has photographed numerous celebrity portraits, as well as advertising campaigns for Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Jil Sander.

"Fashion Eye Bucharest"

Initially drawn to the Palace of the Parliament, Paul Kooiker shifted his focus to the city of Bucharest and its everyday details, captured with his iPhone. He approaches the Romanian capital like a blank canvas, weaving together portraits of Soviet-era apartment blocks with images of the young creative generation, gradually revealing an encyclopedic vision of the city. Their faces, captured with tight framing and color, lend humanity and enhance the appeal of the monochrome visual record. Here, pigeons and cats occasionally appear on streets lined with endlessly uneven facades. These 300 fragments exude a "sense of incompletion," depicting the "multilayered" nature of a city caught between past glories and an uncertain future.

Paul Kooiker

Born in Rotterdam in 1964, Paul Kooiker is currently based in Amsterdam. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, he began teaching at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in the mid-1990s while continuing his personal projects. His style, nurtured by surrealism and conceptual art, is both dreamlike and critical, oscillating between perception and emotion. His curiosity has led him to explore the possibilities of various photographic techniques, including monochrome, sepia, Polaroid, and, more recently, the iPhone. He has published 13 collections of his work, including "Room Service" (2008), "Heaven" (2012), and "Eggs and Rarities" (2018). His talent has been recognized with awards such as the Prix de Rome in 1996 and the A. Roland Holst Prize in 2009. He has also garnered attention for his fashion series created for the luxury sector.
