[Osaka Institute of Technology] Certification of Special Provisions for Educational Curricula
Osaka Institute of Technology and Osaka Kyoiku University have launched a partnership to enhance teacher training programs.
Osaka Institute of Technology (President: Susumu Inoue) and Osaka Kyoiku University (President: Ikuko Okamoto) received certification from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on March 27, 2026, for their joint application regarding "Special Provisions for Leading Initiatives to Improve Educational Curricula."
This special provision system is designed to promote initiatives based on the creativity of universities, provided that internal quality assurance systems are functioning effectively. With this certification, the principle requiring universities to organize curricula solely with courses they offer themselves is relaxed, allowing Osaka Institute of Technology to incorporate online teacher training courses provided by Osaka Kyoiku University as its own credit-bearing courses.
【Overview of the Initiative】
Starting in the 2027 academic year, Osaka Kyoiku University will provide four courses to Osaka Institute of Technology, which will then offer them as its own courses. This partnership leverages the expertise of Osaka Kyoiku University, which specializes in teacher training, to address the educational challenges faced by Osaka Institute of Technology, which operates teacher training programs across three campuses. By providing all courses in an online (on-demand) format, the initiative aims to both improve the student learning environment and enhance the quality of education.

■ Features of the Initiative
Through this partnership, both universities will establish a joint council to continuously verify and improve educational content and methods. In particular, the program will provide highly specialized content on themes of increasing importance in schools across the Kansai region, such as special needs education, inclusive education, and human/children's rights, presenting a model for stable and advanced regional teacher training. Furthermore, while based on on-demand learning, the quality of education will be ensured through mechanisms such as assignment submissions and Q&A sessions.
■ Future Plans
Preparations for operation by the joint council will begin in the 2026 academic year, and after classes commence in the 2027 academic year, the universities will continue to verify educational effectiveness and engage in quality assurance efforts.
