JFE Engineering Corporation

JFE Engineering Corporation (President: Kazumi Fukuda, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has received an order for the construction of a 100MW-class large gas engine power plant (hereinafter, "the Facility"), the first of its kind in the Chubu region, to be newly established by Toho Gas Co., Ltd. (President: Satoshi Yamasaki, Head Office: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, hereinafter, "Toho Gas"). In addition to the construction work, JFE Engineering is also scheduled to undertake 20 years of operation and maintenance services in a lump-sum contract.

The Facility is being constructed to adjust electricity supply and demand, which fluctuates with time, weather, and season, in an era of increasing renewable energy penetration. Toho Gas successfully bid for this project in the long-term decarbonization power auction [※1] in April 2025. The construction site is within the premises of JFE Steel Corporation's Chita Works (Handa City, Aichi Prefecture), with construction scheduled to commence in April 2027, aiming for operation by fiscal year 2030.

Our company has extensive experience in the construction of power generation facilities such as gas engines and LNG-related facilities. Our accumulated technical capabilities, know-how, and overall coordination capabilities were highly evaluated, leading to this order.

Moving forward, our company will continue to contribute to the stable supply of energy and the advancement of energy transition towards the early realization of a carbon-neutral society.

※1 A system supervised by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which aims to promote the construction of new power plants (power sources), switch from fossil fuel-based power sources to carbon-neutral power sources such as hydrogen, ammonia, and renewable energy, and achieve carbon neutrality and stable power supply by 2050.
