[YUGEN Gallery] Yuri Kuramoto & Shoko Nakagawa 'Beyond Current and Detritus' Exhibition to be Held in August 2026

YUGEN Gallery (4F, KD Minami-Aoyama Bldg., 3-1-31 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo) will host the exhibition 'Beyond Current and Detritus' by Yuri Kuramoto and Shoko Nakagawa starting Saturday, August 1, 2026. Curated by Isao Yamamoto of Tamentai, based in Hiroshima, this exhibition follows 'Peaceful Use of Time and Machines' (Summer 2024) and 'Hiroshima Greenery' (Summer 2025) at YUGEN Gallery. These exhibitions have explored the gap between the distant past and the present, starting from science, technology, and plants. In this third consecutive exhibition, the focus is on rivers, considering disconnection and bridging through what flows and what accumulates. When viewing distant events as 'someone else's problem' (literally 'a fire on the opposite shore'), water flows between the banks. The exhibition space, composed by Yuri Kuramoto, who continues to photograph sediment on the riverbeds of Hiroshima, and Shoko Nakagawa, who converts the scenes of life in Hiroshima—a city where rivers flow everywhere—into voice and sound, will serve to bridge the gap between history and daily life.
