Japan Heart, an international medical NGO originating in Japan, has launched a crowdfunding campaign today, May 25, to support the distribution of a new picture book to approximately 100 pediatric cancer-related facilities nationwide. This initiative aims to expand the reach of the 'Smile Smile Project,' a domestic initiative that supports outings for families of children dealing with pediatric cancer.

The 'Smile Smile Project' is designed for children dealing with pediatric cancer and their families, providing medical accompaniment by Japan Heart doctors and nurses. This support allows families to enjoy trips and outings that they might otherwise avoid due to anxiety about being away from medical care.
In Japan, approximately 2,000 children are diagnosed with pediatric cancer each year. Due to long-term hospitalizations and fears of recurrence, many families hesitate to plan trips, often assuming it is impossible. Last year, the project supported 48 families, but many others remain unaware of the support available.
To bridge this gap, Japan Heart is creating a picture book starring 'Pao,' the project's mascot, originally designed by the popular creator 'Tsumupapa.' The books will be placed in hospital waiting rooms and wards to help families discuss possibilities for outings. Funds raised will cover printing, distribution to facilities, event costs, and accommodation for children.
