The Japan Fashion Association was established as a foundation on April 4, 1990, with permission from the Minister of International Trade and Industry, and with broad support from companies, organizations, and local chambers of commerce. With the aim of disseminating Japan's vibrant fashion and lifestyle culture to Asia and the rest of the world, the association has also been planning and operating the fashion information site "Style Arena," themed around "Tokyo Street Fashion," since June 2002.
