Japan LEO Shachu, Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Takehiro Yamamoto) announces that it has received a grant decision for its proposed technology development task, 'Development of an Extravehicular Utilization Platform Capable of Equipping Standard Interfaces,' under the technology development theme 'Extravehicular Utilization Efficiency Technology' in the Space Strategy Fund (Phase 2) publicly solicited by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
This technology development aims to construct a sustainable Low Earth Orbit (LEO) economic sphere in the post-ISS era by developing an extravehicular utilization platform that can respond to diverse installation needs for exposed payloads. The company will build a platform in orbit equipped with standard interfaces and features to provide resources such as power and communication to the payloads.
Considering a design premised on installation, removal, and replacement in orbit by robotic arms, this platform aims to minimize restrictions for users and maximize utilization opportunities by standardizing the design, review, and operation related to extravehicular utilization. The company will also pursue commercialization through mounting the platform on the Japan Module and HTV-X, etc., which it is currently developing.
Through this technology development, the company aims to improve the competitiveness of its Japan Module business and space environment utilization service business, while working to establish an extravehicular utilization infrastructure originating from Japan under a public-private partnership.
