Japan Airlines (JAL) and Japan Transocean Air (JTA) have applied to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for a revision of the "Fuel Surcharge" applicable from July 2026.
The average price of Singapore kerosene for April-May 2026 was $178.21 per barrel. Multiplying this by the average exchange rate for the same period of 158.85 yen to the US dollar resulted in a yen conversion of 28,308 yen for Singapore kerosene market prices. In this case, Zone W (based on 28,000 yen) of the applicable conditions table would normally apply. However, taking into account the effect of subsidies from the government's emergency measures to mitigate drastic changes in light of the situation in the Middle East, the fuel surcharge applicable to tickets issued in July and August 2026 will be the amount for Zone T (based on 25,000 yen).
