JAL Engineering Co., Ltd. (JALEC), a group company of Japan Airlines (JAL), and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) have established a joint venture, 'Aero Breath Co., Ltd.', on June 1, 2026, to focus on the aircraft aftermarket business, primarily aircraft maintenance. To meet the growing demand for aircraft maintenance following the recovery in passenger travel, Aero Breath will build a new maintenance platform by integrating JAL and JALEC's extensive operational and maintenance expertise with MHI's advanced and broad technical foundation. This will streamline maintenance work, improve aircraft quality, and minimize ground time, thereby further enhancing operational efficiency. Aero Breath will be based at Nagoya Airport in Aichi Prefecture and plans to begin maintenance services for regional aircraft within fiscal 2026, subject to obtaining necessary permits. JALEC and MHI will work with Aero Breath to contribute to the development of Japan's aircraft aftermarket business and support the sustainable growth and safe operation of the aviation industry.
