Vision and Objectives of the Comprehensive Agreement (from an Industry Perspective)

The Company is advancing research and development in copper and copper alloy powders and powder metallurgy, as well as metal powder sales, as its next strategic business area following its core products such as continuous casting materials, copper alloy nuts, and fittings for water supply systems and industrial machinery components. As a key player in Japanese industry, the Company aims to contribute to the advancement of manufacturing, high-value-added industrial development, and international contributions through industry-academia collaboration between Japan and Mongolia. We are committed to building a sustainable, mutually beneficial partnership among the four institutions. We understand that this is the first such four-party agreement involving institutions from both Japan and Mongolia at Nagaoka University of Technology, and we are deeply honored and feel a strong sense of responsibility.

SMP is the first manufacturer in Mongolia to utilize water atomization (Note 1) for metal powder production and is one of the key enterprises driving Mongolia’s industrial development. SMP has maintained close collaboration with MUST. Its parent company, Steppe Copper LLC, is one of Mongolia’s leading enterprises, operating in mining, IT, and education-related businesses—sectors highly aligned with the philosophy of this comprehensive partnership. The Company and Steppe Copper LLC have already signed a memorandum of understanding on business collaboration in October 2025. This four-party comprehensive agreement will expand the scope of cooperation beyond corporate collaboration to include joint research, talent development, and technical exchange involving universities.

Furthermore, cultivating high-level talent is a key focus of this comprehensive industry-academia partnership. Through initiatives such as the Mongolian Engineering Higher Education Development Program (M-JEED), NUT’s twinning program, and student internship programs, we aim to enable outstanding young talents to learn Japanese technology and manufacturing philosophies, with the expectation that they will contribute to industrial sectors in both Japan and Mongolia in the future.

Prior to this agreement, as part of our human resource exchange initiatives, the Company hosted one student from the New Mongolian Academy of Technology for an internship in March 2026. This initiative received support from the Nagaoka City Office (Note 3).

Moving forward, the Company will continue to collaborate with local communities, universities, and overseas enterprises to promote joint research, technical exchange, and talent development, contributing to the industrial advancement of both Japan and Mongolia.

Note 1: Water atomization is a method of producing metal powder by spraying high-pressure water onto molten metal. 'Atomization' means 'to spray like mist'.

Note 2: Strategic partnership signed between Steppe Copper LLC and our company to share copper product and copper powder technologies and conduct market R&D.

Note 3: First-time acceptance of Mongolian junior college student internship.

Comments from Representative Director and President Koji Yamamoto

In this comprehensive agreement, what matters most to us is not merely technical collaboration, but actively advancing initiatives that will foster future-oriented industrial development and talent cultivation beneficial to both Japan and Mongolia.

Our aspiration to transform Mongolia’s abundant copper resources into value-added industrial products aligns with our strategic direction of applying our long-standing expertise, manufacturing know-how, and quality management philosophy in copper alloys to new business fields.

Through this collaboration, we will combine Mongolian-produced copper powder, academic expertise from universities, and our experience as a copper alloy materials manufacturer to explore research and development opportunities in copper and copper alloy powders and powder metallurgy. Areas related to copper powder and sintering will be key R&D themes, and through joint research and technical verification, we will concretize pathways toward future commercialization.

Additionally, talent development is a crucial theme of this agreement. Prior to this agreement, we hosted an internship for a Mongolian junior college student and were impressed by the young talent’s high level of expertise and eagerness to learn. We will continue to advance joint research, talent exchange, and technical verification step by step, contributing to the industrial development of Japan and Mongolia as a copper alloy materials manufacturer based in Niigata and Joetsu.
