issue+design, a non-profit organization based in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, that addresses social issues through design, is hosting the 'Umigo-me Contest 2026.'
Marine debris remains a persistent issue. It is said that approximately 80% of marine debris originates from plastic waste generated in cities and carried to the ocean via rivers. Behind this lies the reality that we are not facing the social structures that produce this waste.
'Umigo-me' is a project that collects waste and visualizes the 'feelings leading to waste' that everyone in society possesses, helping us confront the social structures that create marine debris.
In this contest, we aim to raise awareness about reducing marine debris by reflecting on our lifestyles and consumption patterns. To ensure the sustainability of this project, we are seeking companies, organizations, and individuals to support us as partners.
Application Period: June 1, 2026, to February 1, 2027. Eligibility: Open to everyone, including adults and children. How to apply: Use the designated application form and apply via the web form. Awards: 'Umigo-me Grand Prize' (1 winner) and 'Special Awards' (1-3 winners).
Partnership is essential for solving the marine debris issue. We offer various support plans, including Whale Partner (from 1 million yen), Dolphin Partner (from 500,000 yen), Sea Turtle Partner (100,000-300,000 yen), and Flying Fish Supporter (free).
