Insta360 Announces Next-Gen Gimbal Camera 'Luna Ultra' Co-Developed with Leica

Insta360 has announced the 'Insta360 Luna Ultra,' a flagship gimbal camera co-developed with Leica.

The Luna Ultra is a next-generation gimbal camera that integrates professional-grade imaging performance, 3-axis stabilization, and flexible creative tools into a compact portable device. Its dual-lens design, featuring a professional telephoto lens, meets the needs of a wide range of creators—from everyday recording to professional video production.

Equipped with 1-inch 8K imaging, Leica Summicron lenses, a detachable OLED touchscreen, and advanced AI tracking, the Luna Ultra represents a new category for Insta360's imaging technology. It provides creators who want smooth, high-quality video and photos anywhere with an intuitive and highly flexible shooting experience.

Advanced Imaging and Optical Performance

The Luna Ultra features a 1-inch 8K sensor and Leica Summicron lenses for high-resolution video and photo capture. Additionally, a secondary telephoto lens system with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and F2.0 aperture enables natural bokeh effects across five focal lengths.

Supporting up to 12x zoom, with up to 6x lossless zoom, it delivers high expressive power across diverse scenes—from everyday snapshots to capturing distant subjects.

For video, it supports 8K30fps recording with Dolby Vision, plus 10-bit I-Log recording for rich color information and flexible post-production editing. With a maximum of 14 stops of dynamic range, it retains rich detail from highlights to shadows.

For photography, it supports 37MP UltraPhotos and 200MP Scenic Panorama shots, enabling high-resolution still image capture.

In low-light conditions, the PureVideo mode reduces noise and enhances brightness and detail at up to 4K60fps. A triple AI chip supports image processing and overall performance, ensuring stable video quality across various shooting scenarios.

Compact Design and Powerful Stabilization

The Luna Ultra features a compact, lightweight design weighing approximately 200g. Despite its smartphone-like portability, it delivers performance suitable for professional video production.

It features the industry's first detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen, enabling remote monitoring and control via HD transmission up to 20 meters. This enables greater shooting flexibility, including low-angle, high-angle, and solo shooting.

Equipped with a 1550mAh battery, it offers up to 4 hours of usage. It also supports fast charging, reaching 80% in about 23 minutes. It has 47GB of usable built-in storage, expandable up to 1TB via microSD card.

Combining a 3-axis mechanical stabilization system with electronic stabilization, it captures smooth footage even in dynamic scenes. Deep Track 5.0 enables precise subject tracking, with features like auto-tracking, active zoom tracking, group tracking, and smart framing to keep subjects in frame and maintain stable composition.

Creative Tools and Professional Workflow

The Luna Ultra includes Leica color profiles such as Leica Natural, Leica Vivid, and Leica Chrome, along with cinematic filters for diverse in-camera looks. It supports professional color workflows, including ACES (Academy Color Encoding System), making it suitable for professional video production.

Built-in timecode enables synchronization across multiple cameras, integrating seamlessly with editing software like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro.

It also supports QR Color Share for transferring color settings between devices and AI-assisted editing within the Insta360 app. The AI-assisted editing automatically detects key moments and generates share-ready edited videos.

For audio, it features a built-in windguard for clearer outdoor recording and direct compatibility with the Insta360 microphone system in single or dual-transmitter configurations.

A range of dedicated accessories is available, including a POV head tracker for hands-free shooting, a black mist filter for cinematic diffusion effects, a wide-angle lens expanding the field of view to 108°, and ND filters for exposure control and motion blur effects—expanding creative possibilities for creators.

Insta360 and Leica's partnership spans six years, having co-developed five products that merge Leica's optical expertise and iconic color science with Insta360's Emmy Award-winning imaging technology.
