"GENIAC-PRIZE" is a project led by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), aimed at strengthening domestic generative AI development capabilities and promoting social implementation.

Ingenta Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo, hereinafter "Ingenta") has been selected as one of 8 finalists from a total of 58 applicants in "Theme I: Formalization of Tacit Knowledge in the Manufacturing Industry" of the generative AI social implementation project "GENIAC-PRIZE" led by METI and NEDO, advancing to the final screening.

In this project, Ingenta formed a joint team with Biomimetics Sympathies Inc. and proposed "Drug Discovery AI that Capitalizes on Failure Data: An Autonomous Cooperative Hypothesis Generation System using Domestic LLM x Graph Technology".

This proposal envisions and develops an AI system that structures previously underutilized experimental failure data, research records, and literature information, connecting them to hypothesis generation and decision support at R&D sites. It was selected as a finalist in recognition of its potential to inherit tacit knowledge in the drug discovery and manufacturing industries, advance the R&D process, and implement generative AI in practical business operations.

Significance of Being Selected as a Finalist: Technological Capability and Social Implementability Demonstrated Through Third-Party Screening

"GENIAC-PRIZE" is one of the leading projects in Japan aimed at accelerating the social implementation of generative AI. "Theme I: Formalization of Tacit Knowledge in the Manufacturing Industry," to which Ingenta submitted its proposal, gathered advanced proposals tackling diverse social issues from all over the country.

Ingenta has now been selected as one of 8 finalists from 58 applications. We take this as a result of our technological approach being evaluated not merely as a conceptual proposal, but as possessing concrete solvability for on-site challenges and social implementability.

Characteristics of the Proposed Technology: Structured AI that Connects "Failure Data" to the Next Results

The core of the solution proposed by Ingenta lies in converting "failure data" and trial-and-error histories, which have been accumulated at R&D sites but remain underutilized, into a format that can be reused as knowledge.

  1. Capitalizing on Failure Data

It structures atypical data such as experimental failures, review histories, and research memos as knowledge graphs, making them available as a basis for the next hypothesis generation and decision-making. This transforms findings that tend to be buried as personal knowledge into organizational research assets.

  2. Integration of Domestic LLM and Graph AI Technology

By combining a domestic LLM that handles Japanese specialized contexts with Graph AI technology that can express complex relationships and causal structures, it enables the presentation of structural suggestions and candidate hypotheses that cannot be obtained through simple document searches.

  3. Design Conscious of Implementation in R&D Operations

This proposal is designed on the premise of operational implementation that supports researchers in exploration, comparison, and hypothesis generation, rather than just organizing information. It aims to assist the thought process of experts, achieving both a reduction in research workload and an improvement in the quality of judgment.

Why is this Technology Important? Potential for Industrial Applications Beyond Drug Discovery

In the R&D of drug discovery and regenerative medicine, the accumulation of not only success cases but also trials that led to failure and conditional differences is extremely important. On the other hand, such information is dispersed across documents, tables, and oral knowledge, and in many cases, it remains buried without being sufficiently reused.

Ingenta's technology integrates these unorganized findings into a reusable format, supporting the improvement of R&D productivity and reproducibility.

This approach is expected to expand beyond the drug discovery field into areas where the accumulation of complex knowledge and trial-and-error determines competitiveness, such as materials development, chemistry, food, and manufacturing process improvement.

Participation in the "GENIAC-PRIZE Results Presentation Caravan"

Following this selection as a finalist, Ingenta plans to participate in the "GENIAC-PRIZE Results Presentation Caravan (Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Tokyo)", which will be held sequentially from March 31, 2026.

On the day of the event, we will introduce our technology concept and utilization image through booth exhibitions.

We also accept consultations regarding joint research, proof of concept (PoC), and individual introduction with R&D-oriented companies, including the drug discovery and manufacturing industries.

Comment from Biomimetics Sympathies Inc.

Keisuke Ohnishi, Representative Director and President

"At the R&D sites for drug discovery and regenerative medicine, important findings are contained not only in success cases but also in the history of trials and decisions that led to failure. However, in reality, these are dispersed among research memos, experimental records, literature, and the individual experiences of personnel, and the inability to fully utilize them was a major challenge.

In this project undertaken jointly with Ingenta Inc., we were able to concretely demonstrate the possibility of structuring such dispersed findings into a form that is easy for researchers to reuse, connecting them to hypothesis generation and decision support. In particular, we feel a great practical potential in the fact that it can handle knowledge in line with the on-site thought process, rather than just simple searching or summarization.

We believe that this initiative not only contributes to the advancement of R&D in the drug discovery and regenerative medicine fields but is also an approach that can be deployed across a wide range of industrial areas handling complex technical documents and trial-and-error histories. We are confident that this technology, which changes the way R&D is conducted, will be socially implemented as a highly effective solution in a wide range of industrial areas in the future."

Comment from Ingenta Inc.

Dennis Hsueh, Representative Director and CEO

"We are deeply honored to have been selected as a finalist for the GENIAC-PRIZE this time.

Through this proposal, we perceive that our technological approach of reusing failure data and tacit knowledge buried at R&D sites as knowledge assets leading to future results has received a certain level of evaluation.

We are advancing the development of this product with a view to applying it not only to support paper surveys and hypothesis generation but also to experimental data analysis. Moving forward, we will further deepen its utilization in the drug discovery and regenerative medicine fields, while also expanding into peripheral areas such as chemistry, food, and materials development, contributing to the advancement of R&D.

Ingenta will continue to translate advanced AI technology into formats usable on-site, steadily advancing implementation that leads to improved competitiveness for Japanese companies."
