"Gariten" has been very well received every year since its launch in 2006, and this year marks its 20th anniversary.

* You can check the "Gari Index" for 142 locations nationwide from Hokkaido to Okinawa, as well as today's and tomorrow's weather forecasts on a map. * The highest temperature ranking of observation points nationwide will be displayed and updated every 10 minutes. * "Heatstroke prevention comments" by "Weather Managers" (meteorologists) and hot spot pickup information nationwide will be distributed on the official X (@gariten) and Instagram (weathermap_gariten). * The popular "2-week Gari Index" will be announced annually (major cities, updated every Thursday). This can also be used as a guideline for advance heatstroke prevention.

### What is the Gari Index?

The "Gari Index" is a prediction of the increase in everyone's desire for "GariGari-kun" based on weather forecast data from various locations.

It is displayed on the map of Japan in 4 stages, from "1 Gari" to "Box Gari," with the number of "GariGari-kun" and boxes. It serves as a daily guideline for heatstroke prevention.

When Gariten started 20 years ago, there were many summers where temperatures were below the current normal, and I remember worrying about "cool summers" every year.

However, in the last three years, it has been an "unprecedented heat." This trend is not limited to Japan. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has also announced that the past three years were the "hottest three years" on record for the global average temperature.

This summer will also be influenced by this high-temperature trend, and no significant changes are observed in atmospheric or oceanic conditions. If I were to mention a concern, it would be the possibility of an El Niño phenomenon occurring this summer.

Statistically, El Niño years are known to have "normal to lower" temperatures, but currently, the entire Earth is already "wearing high-temperature clogs."

Even if it swings to the lower temperature side, the result will still be "normal" heat.
