IKEA to Launch "SOLUPPGÅNG" Collection, Inspired by Nordic Outdoor Living and Japanese Urban Outdoor Style, from April 1, 2026 (Wednesday)

IKEA Japan K.K. (Head office: Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture; Representative Director and Chief Sustainability Officer: Petra Fåhraeus), the Japanese subsidiary of IKEA, a Swedish home furnishing company with the vision "to create a better everyday life for the many people," will progressively launch its new outdoor collection "SOLUPPGÅNG" from April 1, 2026 (Wednesday), at IKEA stores nationwide and on the IKEA online store. This collection is inspired by friluftsliv, the Nordic philosophy of valuing outdoor life and living close to nature, and by komorebi, the poetic and fleeting beauty of light filtering through tree leaves, symbolizing Japanese urban outdoor style.

The "SOLUPPGÅNG" collection, designed to encourage people to step outside easily even for a short moment in their daily lives, was born from the desire to help people meaningfully enjoy calm and refreshing moments in nature. By blending Nordic and Japanese perspectives on connecting with nature, the items feature a balanced design that is minimalist yet warm and highly functional. They are perfect for walks in the park, day trips to the beach or mountains, or outdoor cooking with friends and family.

Kitchen tools for preparation, such as serving bowls, are appealing for their practicality and the beauty of natural materials. The thoughtfully designed cooler basket combines natural materials with smart features, achieving excellent insulation and a sophisticated look that fits both picnics and kitchens. Textiles like cushion covers prioritize softness, a pleasant feel, and craftsmanship that utilizes natural materials. The versatile bags feature an expandable top and a durable bottom, providing practical space for essentials while maintaining a modest and functional design.

Ola Wihlborg, the designer who created many of the kitchenware and tableware in this collection, states:
"The collection's purpose is 'easy adventures' – casual outdoor experiences that can be enjoyed without special plans or knowledge. When designing knives, forks, barbecue grills, and tableware, I wanted them to fit not only outdoors but also at home. Durable materials like cast iron and enameled steel ensure longevity, while natural material details add a warm touch."
Based on his many years of outdoor experience, he incorporated intuitively usable functionality into each item.
