Three companies — IHI Plant Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Ryoji Aoki; hereinafter "IHI Plant"), a member of the IHI Group; Taisei Corporation (headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshiro Aikawa; hereinafter "Taisei"); and Chubu Plant Service Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Atsuta-ku, Nagoya, Aichi; President: Akira Kuriyama; hereinafter "Chubu Plant Service") — have received an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) order from JERA Co., Inc. (hereinafter "JERA") for four fuel ammonia storage tanks (combined capacity: 160,000 tons) and associated facilities, in preparation for the commercial launch of large-scale ammonia co-firing (20% heat ratio). Construction is currently underway.

This project is a key initiative under JERA's "JERA Zero Emission 2050" roadmap. Construction is progressing toward the commercial launch of large-scale ammonia co-firing (20% heat ratio) at the Hekinan Thermal Power Station, targeted for fiscal year 2029. As of March 2026, the outer roof-raising for Units 1 and 2 has been completed using the air-raising method, and exterior construction work is now finished.

Within this project, IHI Plant is responsible for the design of the ammonia tanks and all associated facilities, as well as procurement of equipment, electrical instrumentation, piping, and related items, in addition to the construction of the ammonia storage tanks. Taisei is handling the foundation and bund wall construction for the ammonia storage tanks, as well as the foundations and building works for the ancillary facilities. Chubu Plant Service is responsible for the piping and structural design of the receiving facilities, as well as the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation works for the ancillary equipment.

Leveraging its extensive track record and advanced technical capabilities in the LNG tank and terminal sector, IHI Plant will continue to contribute to the realization of a low-carbon society — including through the utilization of ammonia — in pursuit of a sustainable energy transition.

Taisei is tackling this project by drawing on the extensive experience and advanced technical expertise it has cultivated over many years. Guided by the Group's philosophy of "Creating environments where people can thrive," the company pursues construction that achieves both safety and quality, and will continue to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.

Chubu Plant Service has been involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of a wide range of plant facilities, continuously honing its technical skills and building trust through sincere engagement with its customers. Going forward, the company will continue to contribute — together with its stakeholders — to the realization of a sustainable future society, grounded in its human and technical capabilities.
