The three companies, IHI Plant Corporation (hereinafter referred to as IHI Plant), Taisei Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Taisei), and Chubu Plant Service Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Chubu Plant Service), have received an order from JERA Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as JERA) for the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) of four large-scale fuel ammonia storage tanks (total capacity of 160,000 tons) and associated facilities, and are proceeding with construction work for the commercial operation startup of large-scale ammonia combustion (20% heat ratio).

This project is one of the important initiatives in JERA's "JERA Zero Emission 2050" program. Construction work is underway for the commercial operation startup of large-scale ammonia combustion (20% heat ratio) at the Hekinan Thermal Power Station, targeting fiscal year 2029. As of March 2026, the outer tank roofs for units 1 and 2 have been raised using the air-raising method, and exterior work has been completed.

In this project, IHI Plant is responsible for the design of the entire ammonia tanks and associated facilities, procurement of equipment, electrical instrumentation, piping, etc., as well as the construction of the ammonia storage tanks. Taisei is responsible for the foundation construction of the ammonia storage tanks and the construction of containment dikes, as well as the foundation and building construction for associated facilities. Chubu Plant Service is responsible for the piping and framework design of receiving facilities and the mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation work for associated facilities.
