[Status of Women's Medicine]
In 2014, the Japan Society for Menopause and Women's Health's 'Women's Healthcare Specialist' was recognized as a sub-specialty by the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. A 2024 report by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry quantified the economic losses caused by women's health issues, finding that menopausal symptoms alone cause losses approximately three times greater than those from gynecological cancers, highlighting the renewed importance of women's medicine.

With only about 1,400 women's healthcare specialists currently practicing, there is a national shortage.
