In the previous release, we introduced an overview of actuaries and the International Congress of Actuaries (ICA). This time, we will introduce the appeal of ICA2026 Tokyo, focusing on the aspirations behind the event's theme and logo, as well as the program content.

Event Theme: "Tradition, Diversity, Innovation"

The International Congress of Actuaries (ICA) is a valuable opportunity for actuaries, specialists in mathematical professions, to gather from around the world and engage in research presentations, lectures, and discussions on a wide range of topics, from traditional life and non-life insurance to cutting-edge data science and AI. Japan, at the forefront of addressing challenges such as declining birthrate, aging population, and natural disasters, is a fitting host for ICA2026 Tokyo, providing a venue to deepen discussions as these issues become globalized.

Japan, a hub for cutting-edge technology while respecting tradition, and Tokyo as the stage, will inspire participants from various fields worldwide to interact and connect the history of actuaries with new ideas. This will truly be an international conference that embodies the theme of "Tradition, Diversity, Innovation."

The ICA2026 Tokyo logo also depicts this theme. Mount Fuji, a symbol of Japan, embodies Japanese tradition and represents the further advancement of the actuarial field. The rising sun behind the mountain signifies a strong will to actively embrace innovation and spread it from Japan to the world.

Anticipation Shown by Over 1,700 On-site Registrations — ICA2026 Tokyo Where Leading Expertise and Latest Research Intersect

During the congress from November 8 to 13, 2026, a total of 12 plenary sessions are scheduled at the Tokyo International Forum, with 45 speakers (as of July 2, 2026). In addition to cutting-edge areas like AI and data science, the congress will cover globally relevant themes such as climate change, natural disasters, and the aging population, as well as the latest trends in insurance capital regulations and international accounting standards. This will provide an opportunity to share the expertise of leading professionals and experts, and for participants to gain insights into the future direction of their practical work and research.

Furthermore, concurrent sessions held in multiple venues will feature approximately 400 research presentations by over 500 presenters. The research topics span nine fields: life insurance, non-life insurance, health insurance, pensions/social security, ERM, investment/finance, actuarial consulting, professionalism/career development, and data science/AI. Each session will include not only presentations but also in-depth discussions with Q&A and opinion exchanges, offering participants a valuable opportunity to learn from each other and expand their networks.

On-site registrations have already surpassed 1,700 as of July 2, with a large number of applications from both Japan and abroad, indicating high interest and expectations for the congress. Lively discussions are expected to unfold in each session at the venue, making ICA2026 Tokyo a highly anticipated event.

Learning from Tradition, Connecting Diversity, Towards Innovation — Program to Experience Japanese Culture and Cutting-Edge Technology

ICA2026 Tokyo will offer more than just presentations and discussions; various social events are planned to facilitate participant networking. At the Welcome Reception on the evening of November 9 and the Gala Dinner at Happo-en on the evening of November 11, participants can deepen their connections in a relaxed atmosphere while experiencing Japanese tradition and culture. The Gala Dinner, set against the backdrop of Happo-en with its Japanese garden in the heart of the city, will be a special occasion for further international networking.

Additionally, a special program will be held on November 13. "Technical Tours" outside the venue will offer opportunities to visit and observe disaster prevention (earthquake/windstorm) facilities, meteorological research institutions, advanced research institutions and corporate bases in the information and communication/IT fields, and historical financial facilities. Sessions will also be held to discuss human resource development and international cooperation for addressing the challenge of actuarial talent shortage, using Africa as a case study. A hands-on workshop is planned to learn the basics of generative AI, its practical applications, and ethics through case studies. Furthermore, a lecture on "Wasan," Japanese mathematics that developed uniquely during the Edo period, will provide a valuable opportunity to experience the charm of mathematics as a culture, exploring concepts and calculation methods different from Western mathematics, and the "culture of enjoying mathematics" symbolized by "Sanggaku" (mathematical tablets) dedicated to shrines and temples.
