IBJ conducted a survey on "Perceptions of Relationships with Older Women and Younger Men" among 977 men and women. In recent years, values regarding age gaps in dating and marriage have been diversifying. The study reveals a modern trend where individuals are moving away from traditional stereotypes, such as the man having to be older, and instead prioritizing the partner's character and mental compatibility to build authentic partnerships.

When asked about dating older women, 60.7% of male respondents answered that it is a "viable dating option." Additionally, 45.3% stated they have had actual dating experience with older women, suggesting that such relationships have become a common choice. Key factors for this attraction include "sense of security" and "mental independence."

■ Nearly 90% of Women Open to Dating Younger Men
When asked about dating younger men, 89.1% of female respondents answered that it is a "viable dating option," and 62.3% revealed they have had actual dating experience. The attraction is driven by "youthfulness" and "egalitarian relationships."

■ A Shift Toward Prioritizing "Mental Compatibility" Over Age
This survey confirms a growing trend of fading resistance toward age gaps in romantic relationships. Regardless of gender, there is a widespread shift in focus from age itself to values and overall connection.
