・Modular robots 'MobED Urban Hopper' and 'MobED Golf' win the highest award candidate 'Best of the Best'
・Small EV concept 'Concept THREE' and off-road EV 'CRATER Concept' win 'Winner'
・Hyundai Motor's future vision from robotics to next-generation mobility highly evaluated
Hyundai Motor Company announced that it has won awards in three concept works at the world-renowned design award 'Red Dot Design Award: Design Concept 2026'.
The modular robot concepts 'MobED Urban Hopper (MobED Urban Hopper)' and 'MobED Golf (MobED Golf)' won the highest 'Best of the Best' and were also nominated for the top award 'Luminary'.
In addition, the next-generation small EV concept 'Concept THREE (Concept THREE)' and the off-road SUV concept 'CRATER Concept (CRATER Concept)' won the 'Winner'. Note that 'Luminary' is the highest award selected from up to five works that won 'Best of the Best', and the winning works will be announced at the award ceremony held in October.
This award is a result of Hyundai Motor's advanced initiatives in robotics, electric mobility, and design being internationally recognized.
Lee Sang-yup, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group and Head of Global Design at Hyundai & Genesis, said:
"This honorable award is the result of Hyundai Motor's design philosophy and vision for the future being recognized. In the future, we will create new value with ideas that are not bound by conventional concepts and evolve customer experiences."
Expanding the possibilities of modular robotics with 'MobED Urban Hopper' and 'MobED Golf'
'MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid)' is a next-generation mobility robot platform developed by Hyundai Motor Group's Robotics Lab, featuring modular high adaptability and extensibility. The two concept models 'MobED Urban Hopper' and 'MobED Golf', which won 'Best of the Best' this time, demonstrate the potential applications.
MobED, with its unique 'Drive-and-Lift (DnL)' module and posture control mechanism, enables stable driving on uneven surfaces, slopes, and steps up to about 20cm high. 'MobED Urban Hopper' is a personal mobility designed for urban travel, and 'MobED Golf' is an autonomous driving golf caddy that provides players with a comfortable golf experience. Furthermore, it has expandability that allows the upper unit to be replaced according to the purpose, proposing the possibility of a flexible platform that can be deployed in various services without individually preparing dedicated equipment. It is expected to be active in a wide range from daily life to leisure.
Proposing a new approach to small EVs with 'Concept THREE'
The 'Concept THREE', which won the 'Winner', is a concept car that shows Hyundai Motor's vision for next-generation small electric mobility. Combining aerodynamic performance, usability, and sensory appeal, it proposes a new package aimed at the smallest entry model in the 'IONIQ (IONIQ)' lineup. While maintaining a small body size, it secures a wide interior space and proposes a new vehicle category called 'Aero Hatch (Aero Hatch)'.
The exterior reflects Hyundai Motor's design language 'Art of Steel (Art of Steel)' in a more familiar form, adopting a transparent ducktail spoiler and pixel lighting to achieve both aerodynamic performance and design. The interior features a driver-centered layout, as well as the adoption of sustainable materials such as recycled materials and aluminum foam.
Off-road EV 'CRATER Concept' aimed at being a partner in adventure
The 'CRATER Concept', which also won the 'Winner', is an electric SUV concept EV that pursues safety, operability, and comfort required for off-road driving. With a powerful body structure and a design that prioritizes functionality, it aims to be a reliable partner even in unknown environments.
The exterior adopts wide fenders, skid plates, and hexagonal design wheels. High visibility is also ensured by parametric pixel lighting and roof lights.
The interior adopts a high-durability structure derived from the roll cage structure, and is equipped with bucket seats and unique controllers based on ergonomics. With a cylinder-type controller and pixel-based steering feedback, precise operation is possible. Furthermore, 'Hyundai AddGear' realizes high customizability tailored to customers' lifestyles.
