■Kaga Onsenkyo "Yamanaka Onsen"

One of the four Kaga hot springs. Yamanaka Onsen, with a history of 1,300 years since its opening, was praised by the haiku master Matsuo Basho as one of the three famous hot springs of Fusō (Japan), along with Kusatsu and Arima. The 1.3km promenade of "Kakusenkei," the all-hinoki (cypress) built "Kōrogi Bridge" dating back to the Edo period, and the Kawadoko (riverside terrace) (April-November) are full of charm. Traditional cultures such as Yamanaka lacquerware and Kutani ware thrive here, and you can enjoy strolling through the town centered around the public hot spring "Sōyu" throughout the four seasons.

Natadera Temple, associated with the Kaga Maeda family, Eiheiji Temple, the head temple of the Sōtō Zen sect, Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, and Kanazawa are all within a 1-hour drive. With the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, access from Tokyo Station to Kaga Onsen Station has improved with direct, no-transfer connections.
■Kisso Yamanaka

A Kaga-conscious hot spring inn along the scenic Kakusenkei Gorge. You can enjoy the fresh greenery, deep green, autumn leaves, and snowy landscapes. It has received three stars in the "Michelin Guide Hokuriku Edition."

The interior is adorned with traditional crafts such as Yamanaka lacquerware, Kutani ware, and Kaga mizuhiki, creating an atmosphere that reflects Kaga's refined culture. The mellow hot spring water has a high pH value and can be enjoyed in the large public baths, open-air baths, footbaths, private baths, and by hot spring hopping to the group ryokan "Kagari Kisshotei."

Seafood such as nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch), sweet shrimp, and snow crab, as well as Noto beef and Kaga vegetables, can be savored at the Kaga Kaiseki and authentic teppanyaki restaurants.

The traditional performing art "Yamanaka-bushi no Yube" performance, counted among Japan's three great folk songs, and local treatments using gold leaf (metabolism) and silver leaf (antibacterial) at Hokuriku's largest "Kisso Spa" create an elegant and healing travel experience.
