Sunrise and cloud sea views seen from Cloud Bar
Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, a nature wonder resort where you can feel the land of Hokkaido, will host the 'Autumn Cloud Sea Terrace Exploration' from September 1 to 30, 2026. During this event, guests will explore their own premium viewing spots on the vibrant Cloud Sea Terrace at dawn, equipped with the 'Cloud Sea Terrace Exploration MAP' featuring scenic spots and recommended ways to enjoy the area. We offer a unique morning experience exclusive to Tomamu—warming your body with the '96.4°C Cloud Sea Blend Coffee,' crafted under the atmospheric pressure at 1,088 meters above sea level.
About the Cloud Sea Terrace
The 'Cloud Sea Terrace' is a scenic observation facility where you can witness dynamic cloud seas and various cloud formations when weather conditions align. Located at 1,088 meters on Mount Tomamu, it is accessible via the Cloud Sea Gondola in approximately 13 minutes one way. Born from the desire to share the breathtaking cloud seas—once a daily sight for ski resort staff maintaining the gondola in summer—with our guests, this facility allows visitors to enjoy the majestic views of clouds and mountains from unique observation points and cafes, experiencing the ultimate morning above the clouds.
Autumn Observation Deck
Features of the 'Autumn Cloud Sea Terrace Exploration'
1. A Breathtaking Sunrise and Scenery from the 'Magic Hour' in Crisp Autumn Air
Magic hour viewable from the observation deck
Autumn is the perfect season to encounter fantastical landscapes. As sunrise occurs later in autumn compared to summer, the gondola's opening hours beautifully align with the 'magic hour'—when the pre-dawn sky transforms moment by moment from lapis lazuli to madder red. This fleeting, stunning scenery can be perfectly captured. Additionally, autumn's low atmospheric moisture results in clearer visibility, allowing the sunrise to shine with a purer brilliance. To ensure guests don’t miss this dramatic moment, participants of this event enjoy priority boarding on the gondola. Experience the tranquil silence before sunrise gradually filling with light from a premium seat on the terrace.
2. '96.4°C Cloud Sea Blend Coffee' Created by the Atmospheric Pressure at 1,088 Meters
Enjoying the '96.4°C Cloud Sea Blend Coffee' while viewing autumn's spectacular scenery
At the Cloud Sea Terrace, 1,088 meters above sea level, atmospheric pressure lowers the boiling point to approximately 96.4°C. This temperature is ideal for suppressing bitterness while enhancing the natural sweetness of coffee beans (*1). Served here is the '96.4°C Cloud Sea Blend Coffee,' developed jointly by Miyanozawa Alchemist Coffee (*2), a specialty coffee roastery in Hokkaido, and the Cloud Sea Terrace staff. Begin your refreshing autumn morning by grinding the beans yourself. Savor pastries while watching steam rise and vibrate the air, and gaze upon the dynamic cloud sea. We offer a luxurious, sensory-rich experience—only possible at this altitude—with the ultimate cup of coffee.
*1 According to the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association), the international standard 'Golden Cup Standard' defines the ideal water temperature for brewing the most delicious coffee as 92°C to 96°C.
*2 A specialty coffee roastery located in Miyanozawa, Chuo Ward, Sapporo City, roasting beans in-house
3. Navigate to Your Autumn Premium Seat! Distribution of the 'Cloud Sea Terrace Exploration MAP' Covering Scenic Spots and Recommended Experiences
Cloud Sea Terrace Exploration MAP
The Cloud Sea Terrace features unique observation spots based on the 'Cloud9' initiative, which proposes nine ways to fully enjoy the mountain-top views. During this event, we distribute the 'Cloud Sea Terrace Exploration MAP,' curated by staff who monitor the terrace daily, highlighting the most beautiful spots where golden-hued mountains contrast with the cloud sea, along with unique autumn experiences. Guests can enjoy a self-guided exploration, discovering their own premium seat—exclusive to this season and moment—by strolling the terrace with the map in hand, feeling the refreshing autumn breeze.
