TOPPAN Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Satoru Ohya; hereinafter referred to as TOPPAN), a group company of TOPPAN Holdings, signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement on Friday, August 1, 2025, with Hokkaido Public University Corporation Sapporo Medical University (Chairman and President: Toshihiko Yamashita; hereinafter referred to as Sapporo Medical University) with the aim of improving operational efficiency and the quality of medical services in healthcare settings.
Based on the knowledge gained from the demonstration experiments conducted under this agreement, TOPPAN will add an operation support service (hereinafter referred to as "this service") to "DICTOR®" (pronunciation: Dictor), a service to support explanation tasks for healthcare professionals, and begin offering it from April 2026.
This will enable smooth operational efficiency tailored to the different operational structures of each department, specific to university hospitals and general hospitals.
"DICTOR®" Service to Support Explanation Tasks for Healthcare Professionals
Background
Since 2024, TOPPAN has been providing "DICTOR®", a service that easily generates digital clones of doctors, etc., and automatically generates and plays videos from text data to explain medical procedures to patients and their families. By utilizing "DICTOR®", medical institutions can improve efficiency in the task of explaining medical content in an easy-to-understand manner to patients and their families.
Under the comprehensive collaboration agreement with Sapporo Medical University, various demonstrations have been conducted to verify the effectiveness of "DICTOR®" and advance the service. During this process, it was confirmed as a challenge that in large hospitals, optimized flows exist for each department, requiring accompanying support for the establishment of hospital-wide video creation and viewing operational processes.
In response to such challenges, TOPPAN will provide this service, offering integrated operational support for large hospitals, including automation and templating of the editing process, editing assistance by specialized staff, and design of viewing times optimized for each site. This will enable operations that go beyond tool provision, accommodating the complex operational flows optimized for each department unique to large hospitals, and the workload of on-site staff for video production.
Features of the Operation Support Service
① Video Creation Support
In addition to providing over 180 standard templates, it supports everything from video creation to regular updates. Specifically, it allows for the creation of videos by flowing in the hospital's own text based on templates and adding supplementary information specific to each department, without placing a burden on doctors and staff for production.
② Viewing Environment Optimization Support
It also supports the setup of network environments that previously had to be handled by the hospital itself. It checks for the availability of network environments in various viewing environments specific to large hospitals, such as wards/outpatient clinics/treatment rooms, and proposes optimal viewing methods such as tablet devices and QR code issuance.
Furthermore, it designs operation procedures synchronized with the actual work in each department and creates department-specific instruction manuals that anyone can operate without confusion.
③ Utilization of Viewing Data and Operational Improvement Support
This service goes beyond simple introduction support; it analyzes viewing data such as completion rates per patient and which videos are frequently watched, and issues quantitative reports on the time saved in explanation tasks and contributions to patient satisfaction. Based on this analysis, it will refine standard explanation texts incorporating on-site feedback, and ...
