Hitachi to Establish 'Harmonized Hill,' a Next-Generation Social Infrastructure Research Hub in Hitachi City, Ibaraki, to Accelerate R&D for a Harmonized Society

Hitachi, Ltd. aims to realize a 'Harmonized Society'—a sustainable society where environment, well-being, and economic growth are in harmony—by establishing 'Harmonized Hill,' a core research hub for next-generation social infrastructure, in Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 2030. Through active research investment, Hitachi will build a global, state-of-the-art research facility. By rapidly disseminating and implementing the results obtained from demonstrations, the company aims to create new businesses, achieve sustainable growth, and generate value for the local community. At Harmonized Hill, Hitachi will conduct research and demonstrations to integrally advance design, control, and operation across multiple fields, looking at the entire social system where various sectors influence each other. As a global, state-of-the-art research hub, it will promote 'convergence research' that combines technologies from multiple fields such as energy, mobility, and manufacturing to create solutions based on social issues. In particular, in coordination with the 'Co-creation Project for Realizing a Next-Generation Future City' promoted with Hitachi City, the company will accelerate the process from research to demonstration and aim to create value for the region. For example, to realize a 'Green Industrial City,' Hitachi will advance research to optimize regional energy operations by integrally capturing electricity, heat, and CO2, utilizing this for optimal use of renewable energy within the region and supporting corporate decarbonization. Furthermore, based on this approach to social systems, Hitachi will promote the use of AI and data, and incorporate insights from the Kyoto Institute of Philosophy to foster and share values in civic life. Using Harmonized Hill as a hub, Hitachi will build an open ecosystem connecting local companies, universities, and research institutions, integrally advancing everything from issue discovery to solution demonstration, result dissemination, and human resource development to create value that leads to solving social issues. Through these efforts, Hitachi will create Lumada 3.0 and the subsequent digitalized asset services that realize further growth, leading to Hitachi's sustainable growth.
