HBC Hokkaido Broadcasting's series of reports on 'discrimination and hate issues against the Ainu people' has won the Excellence Award in the Journalism Activity category at the 63rd (2025) Galaxy Awards. The judges highly praised the station's commitment to facing this issue head-on for over a decade. By resisting the 'atmosphere of silence' and conducting fact-checks and investigative reporting in collaboration with experts, HBC successfully prompted changes in administrative responses. Furthermore, the station's dedication to nurturing young reporters and its organizational stance of protecting its journalists against external pressure were cited as a model for the freedom of journalism. This marks HBC's second Excellence Award in this category since the 59th Galaxy Awards.
