We support "April Dream," an initiative that encourages people to share their dreams on April 1st. This press release represents the dream of Hattori Paper Co., Ltd.
Hattori Paper Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture) aims to realize a society where "daily cleaning habits lead to the preservation of the marine environment" as a small step toward combating global warming.
◆ Background The domestic wastewater we discharge daily, particularly from kitchens, contains high levels of oil. Oil that cannot be fully processed by sewage systems flows into the ocean, where its accumulation becomes a factor that places a burden on marine ecosystems.
The ocean (especially in coastal areas) is home to "sea forests" (seaweed beds) where seaweed such as wakame and kelp grow in clusters. These play a vital role in absorbing and sequestering CO2 through photosynthesis. However, turbidity in seawater and water quality degradation hinder this photosynthetic activity.
◆ Hattori Paper's Initiatives For many years, Hattori Paper has been committed to creating products that are mindful of the health of both people and the planet. We have focused on developing cleaning sheets that minimize the use of synthetic surfactants, preservatives, and fungicides, as well as products designed to wipe up or absorb oil to prevent it from flowing into the sea.
Left: "Katadzuke Poi" for disposing of waste oil and leftover cooking liquids Top Right: Paper hand towels for drying hands and wiping up messes Middle Right: Kitchen paper that absorbs both water and oil Bottom Right: Alkaline electrolyzed water cleaner that is tough on oil stains without using synthetic surfactants Top Left: Hattori Paper's official character, "Hattorinho"
Our dream is simple: By increasing the number of people who use our products, we hope to reduce the environmental burden caused by household wastewater and contribute to the improvement of the marine environment.
We believe that: The daily act of cleaning the kitchen can, as a result, protect the clarity of the sea, support the photosynthesis of seaweed beds, and lead to the absorption and storage of CO2.
Even if individual actions are small, when they accumulate, they will surely change the environment.
Toward a society where "cleaning" leads to "protecting."
That is the future envisioned by us at Hattori Paper.
