◆Background Our daily domestic wastewater, especially from kitchens, contains a lot of oil. Oil that cannot be treated by sewage flows into the sea, and its accumulation becomes one of the factors that burden the marine ecosystem.

In the sea (especially in coastal areas), there are "marine forests" (seaweed beds) where wakame and kelp grow in colonies. These play an important role in absorbing and fixing CO2 through photosynthesis. However, turbidity of seawater and deterioration of water quality hinder this photosynthetic activity.
