1 in 5 People Have Found a Partner at the Gym: Survey of 200 Gym-Goers Reveals 'Natural Greetings' as the Top Catalyst (Happy Mail)

Ibek Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture), which operates the dating and matching app 'Happy Mail' (https://happymail.co.jp/) with a cumulative membership of 35 million (as of June 2024), conducted a survey on 'encounters at the gym' targeting 200 adult men and women who currently or previously attended a gym. The survey covered whether they found a partner at the gym, the type of gym, the catalyst for becoming close, and their usage frequency. 20% of respondents reported having found a partner at the gym. The most common type of gym for these encounters was 'General Sports Gyms' (57.5%). The most frequent catalyst for building a relationship was 'natural greetings' (60%), followed by 'helping each other with machine usage' (17.5%). The results suggest that consistent attendance and small, daily interactions are more effective for forming relationships than special events.
