KADOKAWA Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Takeshi Natsuno) will release the first volume of "Espresso Cola: Momono Ki School for Child Development Support" on July 8, 2026 (Wed).
"Espresso Cola" is a story depicting the daily lives of child development support professionals, written and independently published by Yuriko Hokkamuri, who previously worked in the field, on platforms like Instagram and Amazon Indie Manga. The manga focuses on the support provided to children with developmental disabilities.
The original work, boasting an overwhelming number of positive reviews with over 3 million total downloads and more than 70,000 five-star ratings, has been adapted into a commercial edition with art by Hashimoto, known for "Nietzsche-sensei: A Satori Generation Newcomer Lands at the Convenience Store." The first volume was released on July 8.
Medical supervision was provided by Dr. Yosuke Iminishi (Dr. Flyght), a neonatologist and pediatrician who also provided medical supervision for the drama "Kounodori."
This work, which focuses on "difficult-to-raise children" due to various factors and their families, has received high praise from experts in developmental disability support, education, and medicine. It was also selected as a nominee for the "Next Manga Award 2026."
Endorsements on the obi (book band) include comments from manga artists Yu Suzunoki ("Kounodori" / Kodansha Ltd.), Inuhiko Norota ("Kimi to Uchu wo Aruku Tame ni" / Kodansha Ltd.), comedian Miyuki Torii, and child psychiatrist Dr. Toru Yoshikawa.
[Endorsement Comments (in Japanese syllabary order / titles omitted)]
● Yu Suzunoki [Manga Artist]: There are no perfect children, nor is there perfect parenting. Parents don't have to be perfect. That's why they exist. This is a story about families and therapists who embrace the individuality of children.
● Inuhiko Norota [Manga Artist]: I feel that the act of "communicating one's thoughts to others and having them understood" is very complex and difficult. This is a passionate work that allows us to see the adults who face children and continue these efforts every day!
● Miyuki Torii [Comedian]: Bitterness and sweetness mingle, and the aftertaste lingers on the tongue.
● Toru Yoshikawa [Child Psychiatrist]: Here lies a ray of light illuminating the dark path of therapy. It's incredibly interesting. So interesting it interferes with my work.
