The Ryukyu Golden Kings have announced that Associate Head Coach Norio Sassa's contract has expired, and he will be leaving the team.
Born in 1984 and an alumnus of Tokai University, Norio Sassa began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Hitachi SunRockers in 2009. He has built an extensive resume with stints at Link Tochigi Brex, Ryukyu Golden Kings, and Utsunomiya Brex. After winning the B.League championship as an assistant coach at Utsunomiya (2021-22) and serving as their head coach, he returned to Ryukyu in 2024.
The club highly commended Sassa's leadership, particularly during the 2024-25 Emperor's Cup semifinals, where he led the team to victory in the absence of Head Coach Dai Oketani under high-pressure circumstances. The organization expressed deep gratitude for his passionate daily guidance and his energetic presence that empowered the team.
Sassa commented, "These two years went by so quickly, and parting is bittersweet. I have dedicated myself to giving back to the people of Okinawa. Fighting alongside the Kings fans has truly been a lifelong treasure for me."
