Kikokushijo Academy (KA) and Ikubunkan Yume Gakuen have commenced a collaboration in English education starting in the 2026 academic year, introducing an original after-school English program.

This program targets students in the 6-year integrated course of Ikubunkan Junior High School Global Class and Global High School. While operating within the framework of Japanese school education, it provides a learning environment that fosters advanced English proficiency and academic thinking skills with an eye toward overseas university progression.

English Education Aligned with School Policies

Built upon KA's courses, this is an initiative designed to strengthen English proficiency in accordance with the school's policies and the students' learning stages.

Key Features

- A learning design centered on the Eiken test (including current events), encompassing everything from building a foundation for overseas university admission to advanced applications. - 100% English online live classes (lecture + discussion + practice). - Consolidation of learning linked with regular English classes (SDGs, social themes). - Instruction by KA teachers with a curriculum tailored to the school.

Major Course Examples

Eiken Pre-1 to Grade 1 preparation / SAT preparation / AP preparation / Media, Art, Literature, etc.

Fostering the Ability to Think, Discuss, and Express in English

Incorporating "Answering 'Who are you?'", which is one of Ikubunkan's educational policies, the program promotes inquiry-based learning and exam preparation where students reflect on their values and identities. Through a cycle of utilizing what they learned in regular classes during after-school hours, students not only improve their English proficiency but also cultivate the ability to think, discuss, and express themselves in English.

Background and Aims of the Introduction

Comment by Yoshio Kamakura, Principal of Ikubunkan Junior High School and Global High School:

"Last year, I met with Mr. Charles Knudsen, the founder of Kikokushijo Academy, and felt a strong resonance with his mission and vision for international education. I consider this collaboration to have been inevitable.

At our school, we are strengthening the cultivation of English proficiency with a view to overseas progression, setting high achievement goals from the junior high school stage. To realize this, we have introduced Eiken Pre-1 and Grade 2 courses taught by native instructors after school, building a foundation of English skills that leads to overseas university admission.

Although it has not been long since the introduction, the time spent 'learning, thinking, and expressing in English' is becoming a daily routine, and we hear many positive voices from students saying, 'It is fun to be able to learn in English after school as well.' I feel a change in their proactive attitude toward learning.

Toward realizing our school's education of 'choosing a career path from the world map,' we believe this initiative will serve as a solid foundation for it."

An English Education Model That Can Be Introduced on a School-by-School Basis

This project is a new model that allows schools to introduce KA's English education program, which has produced numerous successful applicants to prestigious universities domestically and internationally, on a school-by-school basis. By utilizing online live classes, an advanced English learning environment is built in the most optimal format for each school.

- In-school classes led by highly specialized native instructors. - Original curriculum tailored to school policies. - A learning environment utilizing existing classrooms, reducing travel burdens and facility costs.

Using the partnership with Ikubunkan as a model case, we will continue to support the construction of advanced English learning environments, keeping overseas progression in mind, for schools that require this program in the future.
