As a result, we are pleased to announce that 'Tabisaki Nozei®' (*3) started in Sendai City on Monday, June 1, 2026, and the issuance of the digital gift certificate 'Sendai Odekake Nozei' as a return gift has begun. The number of local governments that have introduced the 'Tabisaki Nozei®' system is 128 nationwide, including Sendai City (as of Monday, June 1, 2026). Furthermore, Sendai City has adopted 'Tabisaki Nozei®' in collaboration with Nissenren Life Service Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture / President and Representative Director: Toru Sugawara).

Sendai City is the only ordinance-designated city in the Tohoku region with a population of over 1 million, and it is developing as the economic and administrative center of Miyagi Prefecture. In addition, with an extensive transportation network including the Tohoku Shinkansen, it has good access to the Tokyo metropolitan area and features extremely high convenience for travel and business. Furthermore, with wide-area transportation hubs such as Sendai Airport and Sendai-Shiogama Port located nearby, it also serves as a gateway to the Tohoku region.

Sendai City is also dotted with historical sites such as the ruins of Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle) and Zuihoden. The 'Sendai Tanabata Festival', held every summer, attracts many tourists from home and abroad as a traditional event representing Japan. Furthermore, in addition to fresh seafood landed in the Pacific Ocean, the city is famous for food that utilizes local characteristics, such as grilled beef tongue, a Sendai specialty, agricultural products nurtured in rich soil, and local sake, cultivating a rich food culture.

This time, Sendai City has introduced 'Tabisaki Nozei®' with the aim of expanding the interacting population through travel and outings to the city and increasing the donation amount of hometown tax, and will provide digital gift certificates that can be used at participating stores in the city as experience-based return gifts.

The 'Tabisaki Nozei®' implemented by Sendai City is a new hometown tax mechanism where you can easily donate from your smartphone before or during your trip, and instantly receive a digital gift certificate 'Sendai Odekake Nozei' usable at participating stores in the city, equivalent to 30% of the donation amount, as a return gift. Donations can be made by transitioning to the donation site from the 'Tabisaki Nozei® Official Website' or from a 2D code printed on POPs installed at participating stores, and paying by credit card.

The digital gift certificate 'Sendai Odekake Nozei' is a return gift of 'Tabisaki Nozei®' that allows you to give back to the local economy while enjoying outings and travel in Sendai City. From Monday, June 1, 2026, it can be used for payment at 59 participating stores (as of Monday, June 1, 2026), including restaurants and accommodations in the city. Sendai City offers flexible options so that more people can utilize 'Sendai Odekake Nozei'. The first is a method of deciding the donation amount first, allowing free amount setting in units of 1,000 yen within the range of 5,000 yen to 5,000,000 yen, and the return gift amount will be equivalent to 30% of the donation amount. The second is a method of deciding the amount of the return gift you want to receive first. When you enter the desired return gift amount within the range of 1,500 yen to 1,500,000 yen, the closest return gift amount equal to or greater than that amount and the corresponding donation amount are automatically displayed. The third is a method of choosing from fixed-amount plans where the donation amount and return gift amount are set in advance. A total of 5 types of plans are available, with donation amounts set in the range of 5,000 yen to 100,000 yen, and return gift amounts in the range of 1,500 yen to 30,000 yen.

There is no need to download an app when receiving or using the return gift, and it can be used in units of 1 yen at the time of checkout. Two types of payment methods for 'Sendai Odekake Nozei' are available depending on the participating store: '2D Code Authentication (Static MPM Method)' and 'giftee STAMP' (*4). In the case of '2D Code Authentication', when using it at a participating store, you read the 2D code installed at the store in advance from the 2D code reading screen of 'Sendai Odekake Nozei' on your smartphone, enter and confirm the amount to be used, and present the payment completion screen to the participating store to complete the payment. In the case of 'giftee STAMP', the user enters the amount they want to use on their smartphone, and the participating store stamps the electronic stamp 'giftee STAMP' on the ticket face of 'Sendai Odekake Nozei' displayed after entry to complete the payment. In both payment methods, a process called 'cancellation' is performed upon completion of payment, and it is recognized as a used ticket at that timing, preventing fraudulent use such as reuse.

Giftee will further promote the provision of 'e-Machi Platform®' and 'Tabisaki Nozei®' to local governments nationwide as a new return gift and donation method for hometown tax, and as a means of revitalizing the local economy.
