GBP Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Representative Director: Yohei Ryukawa, hereinafter GBP), a developer of comprehensive renewable energy solutions, has strengthened its system to provide a one-stop service from component procurement to construction for peripheral equipment associated with the repowering of power conditioners (hereinafter PCS) for solar power plants. By comprehensively handling peripheral areas such as junction boxes, collector boxes, and DC/AC cable wiring construction, which are challenges during PCS replacement, we aim to eliminate the coordination burden among multiple contractors, shorten construction periods, and minimize power generation loss.

More than 10 years have passed since the start of the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) system, and the aging of central-type PCS in domestic solar power plants is progressing. Central-type PCS carry the risk that the failure of a single unit can lead to the shutdown of the entire power plant. Repowering to distributed-type PCS is attracting attention as an effective solution.

However, the biggest bottleneck hindering the execution of repowering is not the replacement of the PCS unit itself. The switchover of PCS necessitates extensive changes to peripheral equipment, such as the addition of junction boxes and collector boxes, and the re-wiring of DC/AC cables. These require separate orders and coordination with PCS manufacturers, component suppliers, and construction contractors. The complexity and the power generation loss accumulated during the coordination period have been factors delaying decision-making by operators.

In response to these challenges in PCS repowering, GBP offers the following on a one-stop basis:

◆ Reduced Effort through Centralized Point of Contact

By consolidating the point of contact from component procurement to completion of construction with GBP, we reduce the customer's burden of coordinating among multiple contractors.

◆ Integrated Procurement to Construction of Peripheral Equipment

We minimize power generation loss by comprehensively handling peripheral equipment changes associated with PCS replacement, including the provision and installation of junction boxes and collector boxes, and DC/AC cable wiring construction.

GBP has a track record of comprehensively handling the repowering of a 1.7MW solar power plant, transitioning from three central-type PCS units to 24 distributed-type PCS units. In addition to replacing the PCS units, we provided and installed junction boxes and collector boxes, and performed cable wiring construction in an integrated manner, achieving shorter construction periods and minimized power generation loss.

With over 10 years having passed since the introduction of the FIT system, the number of power plants facing aging not only in PCS but also in solar panels, junction boxes, and collector boxes is expected to increase further. GBP will contribute to reducing the burden on operators and ensuring the long-term stable operation of power plants by leveraging its strength in completing everything from component procurement to construction and O&M within a single company for such equipment repowering.

We can support not only PCS updates but also from the検討 (consideration) stage of repowering with a view to optimizing the entire facility. Please feel free to contact us.
