Hakone Kowakien confirmed the first firefly sighting of the year at its garden, 'Hakone Kowakien Horaien,' on May 25, 2026, at 7:00 PM. In the nature-rich Horaien, surrounded by the outer rim of Hakone's mountains, Genji fireflies grow wild every year from late May to mid-June, offering a fantastic night as a seasonal tradition of early summer. Furthermore, until June 28 (Sun), the 'Hakone Kowakien Firefly Festival' is being held under the theme 'Don't just watch fireflies! Enjoy a Hakone trip until night!' Limited-time day-trip plans are available, combining hot spring bathing at Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, dinner buffets at Hakone Hotel Kowakien and Hakone Kowakien Tenyu. Additionally, on June 6 (Sat) and 7 (Sun), the popular Lantern Night will return for two nights only.
