Shimoda Aquarium x Young Fish Aquarium: Young Fish Graduate to Shimoda Aquarium - Children's Day Special Exhibition!

Shimoda Aquarium (located at 3-22-31 Shimoda, Shizuoka Prefecture) will hold a special exhibition for children's fish in celebration of Children's Day on May 5. On March 14, 2026, the Young Fish Aquarium (located at 52-1 Fushimi, Shimizu-cho, Sunto-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture, Santomoon Kakitagawa Oasis 3F) held a 'fish graduation ceremony,' recognizing fish as adults. These graduated fish will now 'advance' to Shimoda Aquarium. This exhibition celebrates their advancement. The Young Fish Aquarium specializes in raising and exhibiting young fish (fry shortly after hatching). Each March, larger, grown fish participate in a 'fish graduation ceremony' to mark their step into adulthood. Annually, these fish are transferred to aquariums nationwide and overseas. This year, 17 species and 42 fish, including rabbitfish, flounder, rudderfish, and pennant coralfish, will 'advance' to Shimoda Aquarium. These fish, who entertained many visitors as juveniles at the Young Fish Aquarium, will now convey their robust way of life and charm to new audiences at Shimoda Aquarium, beginning their second life as fish. Let's celebrate their advancement! The exhibition will be held at the special exhibition tank at the Marine Stadium entrance from April 18 (Saturday) to May 17 (Sunday), 2026. Exhibited species include damselfish, rabbitfish, hawkfish, and pinecone fish (subject to change without notice). The Young Fish Aquarium is the world's first aquarium specializing in young fish, conveying the charm of small lives and the wonder of growth through its unique exhibits. Shimoda Aquarium, operated by Shimoda Aqua Service Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujita Kanko, opened in March 1967 as an interactive aquarium. It is unique for utilizing a natural cove and exhibits marine life from the Izu Peninsula, including dolphins, sea lions, seals, penguins, and otters. It offers interactive programs like feeding and swimming with dolphins, emphasizing close interaction between visitors and marine life.
