The Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki Project (Headquarters: Oyodo-naka, Kita-ku, Osaka; COO: Shigeru Oshima) will collaborate with the local Gujo craft studio 'Gujo Mokuri' on July 30, 2026, to host an exclusive workshop for guests at Fairfield by Marriott Gifu Gujo, allowing them to experience assembling and personalizing traditional Gujo Odori dancing geta.
The Fairfield by Marriott Michi-no-Eki Project operates 29 lodging-focused hotels nationwide, promoting a travel style centered on exploring hidden local gems. The project's concept, 'Quest for Unknown Japan,' aims to provide unique regional experiences.
The Gujo Odori festival, held annually in Gujo, Gifu Prefecture, is one of Japan's three major Bon dance festivals and was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022. Spanning over 30 nights from mid-July to early September, it is known as Japan's longest-running dance festival.
Supporting this festival culture is Gujo Mokuri, a workshop specializing in dance geta made in Gujo. During this event, under the guidance of representative Yuto Morohashi, participants will select their favorite straps to attach to their wooden geta and personalize them using a pyrography pen. Participants can finish a one-of-a-kind original pair of dancing geta.
The event takes place on the day of the Gujo Odori festival, allowing participants to bring their finished geta directly to the dance circle. This provides a rare opportunity to deepen understanding of Gujo's traditional crafts and festival culture.
