Call for Nicknames for Key Expo Pavilions! Giving Beloved Names to Facilities Blooming into the Future

## Press Release Details

The GREEN×EXPO Association (Official name: Japan Association for the 2027 International Horticultural Exposition; Chairman: Yoshinobu Tsutsui; Location: Naka-ku, Yokohama) is calling for public submissions for the nicknames of its main exhibition facilities to build momentum and promote the appeal of the 2027 International Horticultural Exposition.

The three exhibition facilities seeking names (Themed Pavilion, Horticultural Culture Pavilion, and Indoor Exhibition Facility) will play a crucial role as key venues showcasing the expo's theme. The chosen "best submissions" will be widely utilized in event materials such as venue maps.

### 1 About the Exhibition Facilities

(1) Themed Pavilion
~All life is connected. Centering on plants~
This facility will showcase how we can learn from plants and organisms to live in harmony with nature and greenery amidst global climate change, and how to apply those lessons to the future.
Constructed using domestic cross-laminated timber (CLT) to represent sustainable cycles and contribute to carbon neutrality, the building's design applies the functionality and rationality found in plant structures. It creates a space for visitors to physically experience the connections of the "real world" supported by abundant life.

(2) Horticultural Culture Pavilion
~Knowing, feeling, and connecting Japanese horticultural culture to the future~
This facility will introduce Japan's traditional horticultural culture nurtured by the unique Japanese view of nature.
The building utilizes the unique Japanese "Hanegi" (cantilever) construction method and follows the existing terrain in a staggered arrangement. The roof is greened to connect with the earth, harmonizing with the surrounding environment.
We will convey the aesthetic sense and techniques of Japan's unique horticulture passed down from the Edo period through real objects and experiences, encouraging reflection on co-existence with nature, community connections, and spiritual richness.

(3) Indoor Exhibition Facility
~New excitement every time you visit~
This facility will host indoor exhibitions by flower and greenery exhibitors and official participants. You can enjoy displays colored with diverse flowers and greenery from Japan and abroad throughout the expo. Furthermore, exhibitions will rotate every nine days, featuring companies, organizations, individuals, and local governments, ensuring a new charm at every visit.
Aiming for "GREEN Circular Architecture," the facility uses structural materials reused from the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai and the Women's Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.

### 2 Eligibility

- Professional or amateur, experience or awards are not required.
- No age restrictions. (Applicants under 18 must apply with a legal guardian.)
- Limited to Japanese nationals or foreign residents in Japan (holders of a resident record in Japan).
- Individual entries only; group entries are not accepted.

### 5 Selection Process and Schedule

(1) Selection Process
- One "Best Work" will be selected for each facility from all entries.
- In case of duplicate entries, the best winner will be selected based on the explanation of the nickname.
(2) Judging Criteria
- Friendly and easy for anyone to remember.
- Evokes the imagery and characteristics of the exposition.
- Makes it easy to imagine the purpose of the facility.

### 6 Results Announcement and Awards

(1) Selection Results
Around mid-September 2026, winners will be notified, and their names and nicknames will be published on the official GREEN×EXPO 2027 website.
