Domestic IoT Smart Trash Can 'Reebo' Launches First Outdoor Model; Full-Scale Implementation in Outdoor Commercial Spaces

Elcom Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido; Representative Director: Takao Soma) has delivered and installed the outdoor-compatible model of its originally developed and manufactured IoT smart trash can "Reebo" at the "MIO Garden Terrace" within 'Tennoji MIO', a commercial facility directly connected to JR Tennoji Station operated by JR West SC Development Company (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka, Osaka).

This product marks our company's first rollout of an outdoor-compatible model. This implementation is a progressive initiative that upgrades waste management through smart compression technology originating in Japan and data utilization. It serves as a model case for next-generation facility operations that achieve both a reduction in environmental burden and operational efficiency.

The "Outdoor Trash Issue" Emerging Behind the Expansion of Bustling Spaces MIO Garden Terrace is a vibrant space that fuses food experiences where visitors can enjoy "freshly made, freshly bought" items, with local "good products" transmitted via POP-UPs and kitchen cars. On the other hand, in outdoor spaces with high customer-attracting power, the burden of collection and aesthetic maintenance due to increased trash had become an issue.

Our company has been repeatedly testing the IoT smart trash can "Reebo" since July 2023 at "LUCUA osaka", a station-type commercial facility directly connected to Osaka Station operated by JR West SC Development Company. Leveraging the unique strengths of a domestic manufacturer, we have improved it to specifications optimized for Japanese facility spaces. In 2025, 4 units were officially introduced, receiving high praise for their effectiveness in streamlining collection operations and preventing trash overflow.

Based on these track records, we developed the outdoor-compatible model, introduced 3 units to 'Tennoji MIO', and began expanding into outdoor spaces.

Optimization and Labor-saving of Collection Achieved by Smart Trash Cans The IoT smart trash can "Reebo" is next-generation equipment that simultaneously achieves collection operation optimization and environmental measures. Equipped with a function that automatically compresses trash up to 1/4 of its volume and a communication function, it visualizes the trash accumulation status in real-time, thereby optimizing the timing of collection.

Through this, it achieves: ・Efficiency and labor-saving in collection operations ・Aesthetic maintenance by preventing trash overflow ・Improvement of hygiene environments This contributes to creating a space where visitors can spend their time comfortably.

Furthermore, by utilizing accumulated data, it is possible to analyze trash disposal trends and utilize them for future trash reduction measures.

A Domestic Smart Trash Can That Doesn't "End After Implementation" This product is a smart trash can originating from Japan, optimized for domestic usage environments. Unlike the "large, high-power, one-size-fits-all specifications" often seen in foreign products, it adopts a compact domestic specification that emphasizes the space-saving, quietness, safety, and customizability required in Japanese commercial facilities and public spaces.

In addition, we have established a maintenance and support system through domestic bases, supporting prompt and continuous operations even in parts supply and maintenance responses.

Because of this, it provides value not as something that "ends after implementation", but as infrastructure that can be utilized reliably over the long term.

"Visualization" that Changes Behavior, Toward a Sustainable Future Furthermore, it supports the installation of magnetic wrapping and signage monitors as options, promoting the DX (Digital Transformation) of trash cans. It is also possible to implement interactive mechanisms that encourage behavioral changes in users, such as video switching or audio production in response to the action of throwing away trash.

Going beyond mere equipment installation, we aim to build a sustainable facility operation model by promoting user behavioral changes through the "visualization" of environmental issues, and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
