○ East Japan Railway Company (hereinafter "JR East") and Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "J-POWER") are launching a regional revitalization project that leverages the strengths of both companies to utilize renewable energy (hereinafter "renewable energy") from the Suezawa Power Station (hydroelectric, Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture), which is operated by the J-POWER Group.
○ JR East, JR East Marketing & Communications, Inc. (hereinafter "JR East Marketing"), and J-POWER have concluded a PPA* regarding the supply of renewable energy from the Suezawa Power Station. The electricity and environmental value generated by the Suezawa Power Station will be used for local production and consumption at nearby Tadami Line station buildings and the CoCoLo Yuzawa station building in Niigata Prefecture, as well as supplied to multiple other JR East Group facilities. This marks the first time the JR East Group has implemented a PPA based on hydroelectric power.
○ To raise awareness of this initiative, the companies are planning and selling travel products that include tours of the Suezawa Power Station, which is typically restricted to the public.
○ Both groups view renewable energy as a valuable regional resource and will contribute to local communities through its effective utilization.
* Power Purchase Agreement: A contract in which a consumer purchases renewable energy directly from a power generator.
