Tokyo Ryutsu Center Co., Ltd. (TRC) and Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. have announced the completion of high-precision 3D map data covering all areas of the TRC premises, one of the largest logistics facilities in central Tokyo.
By establishing this data, they aim to enable the reception and smooth operation of Level 4 autonomous vehicles throughout the TRC site, including indoor sections. This initiative will also contribute to the development of peripheral technologies such as physical AI.
### Key Highlights of the Initiative
1. Deployment to Heiwajima Autonomous Driving Council Members The newly developed high-precision 3D map data will be provided as a shared infrastructure to member companies of the Heiwajima Autonomous Driving Council. It is available for R&D and demonstration purposes related to autonomous driving and physical AI within the TRC site, significantly reducing the cost and time individual companies spend on data preparation and accelerating social issue resolution through open innovation.
2. Wide Utilization by Automakers and Autonomous Tech Developers The data adopts the global standard format 'Lanelet2,' making it compatible with various autonomous driving systems developed by companies worldwide. Utilization is already planned by several member companies, including domestic automakers aiming to implement autonomous commercial trucks.
### Background of the Project The logistics industry is currently exploring autonomous transport technologies to address urgent social issues like truck driver shortages. While government-led demonstrations focus on highway driving, achieving full logistics network automation requires autonomous vehicles to access loading docks (berths) within logistics facilities. Located near key expressway interchanges like Heiwajima and Oi-minami, TRC aims to become a seamless hub for autonomous trucks once general road automation becomes practical.
Meanwhile, Dynamic Map Platform has been participating in the 'TRC Indoor Autonomous Driving Working Group' since last December. Working with developers, they are establishing autonomous driving technologies for facility interiors.
Under this background, TRC and Dynamic Map Platform created high-precision 3D maps of the entire facility, including indoor spaces where GPS signals are weak and complex geometric structures like rampways. This data will accelerate autonomous driving R&D and facilitate real-time integration with facility management systems, enabling autonomous trucks to navigate safely to designated berths and coordinate with tenants.
### Partner Comments Daisuke Hoshina, Head of Logistics Business Division at TIER IV, Inc.: 'TIER IV envisions the democratization of autonomous driving. Achieving seamless autonomy from trunk routes to logistics berths is a vital theme. The map data provided here will serve as a shared infrastructure for our Autoware-based R&D and demonstrations.'
