Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Shuichi Yoshimura; hereinafter "the Company") is pleased to announce that its group company, Dynamic Map Platform Axyz Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Hiromichi Amatani), has test-introduced its snow removal support system "SRSS" in Yamagata Prefecture, marking its first operation in the prefecture. This initiative will utilize SRSS for spring snow removal work in the Nishi-Azuma Sky Valley to verify reductions in work hours and improvements in the efficiency and safety of snow removal operations.

SRSS combines the Company's high-precision 3D map data, also used in autonomous vehicles, with high-precision positioning information to provide guidance for snow removal operations. By incorporating information such as road shapes, locations of road structures, and know-how related to snow removal, including areas where snow dumping is prohibited and points requiring caution, into a dedicated map, and visualizing road conditions on a tablet device, SRSS achieves "snow removal DX."

The Nishi-Azuma Sky Valley is a mountain road approximately 17.8 km long, connecting Shirabu Onsen in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, and the northern shore of Lake Hibara in Urabandai, Fukushima Prefecture. It is closed to traffic during winter due to snow from November to early April each year, with spring snow removal operations commencing around mid-April as snowfall decreases. Traditional snow removal work requires the installation of snow poles as markers to estimate the buried road position and the removal of structures such as guard ropes that obstruct work before snowfall, which contributes to increased man-hours. Furthermore, accurate snow removal operations demand extensive experience and advanced skills from operators, posing challenges in fostering new talent and ensuring operational safety.

With SRSS guidance, it is expected to reduce the burden of pre-preparation work and enable safe and smooth snow removal operations even for less experienced young operators. In this test introduction, through the utilization of SRSS, the Company will verify the potential for reducing materials and man-hours required for snow removal preparation, as well as improving the efficiency and safety of snow removal operations.

Yamagata Prefecture has also developed and publicly released 3D point cloud data for its entire prefectural road network, known as "Yamagata Prefecture Road Space Point Cloud Data," as open data. While point cloud data used for SRSS map creation is typically measured independently by the Company, this initiative utilizes this open data and processes it for SRSS to implement the system.

Through public-private partnerships, the Company will continue to address the shortage of personnel in infrastructure maintenance fields, including snow removal, and resolve societal issues related to road and traffic maintenance and management.

<About the Snow Removal Support System "SRSS">

This service is customized for snow removal operations by Dynamic Map Platform Axyz, combining the Company's high-precision 3D map data, also used in autonomous vehicles, with "RTK positioning*2" utilizing "CLAS*1" for high-precision self-position estimation. By understanding the vehicle's position through high-precision location information obtained from GNSS receivers, and visualizing road shoulders, manholes, and other features hidden under snow on a tablet device, it supports safe and smooth snow removal operations.
