The 17th Life-Connecting Dog and Cat Photo and Video Contest Begins Accepting Entries! A Public Interest Foundation Aiming for Zero Euthanasia of Dogs and Cats Holds the Contest with the Concept of "Adopt, Don't Buy."

The Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Doubutsu Kikin (Location: Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture; Chairman: Kunihisa Sagami), which aims to achieve zero euthanasia of dogs and cats, will hold its 17th "Life-Connecting Dog and Cat Photo and Video Contest" this year. The subjects for the contest are dogs and cats adopted from government agencies, animal welfare organizations, or individual volunteers, as well as dogs and cats rescued from the streets, Sakura Neko, and community cats. With the concept of "Adopt, don't buy," it is a photo and video contest to widely inform people about the option of not purchasing lives.

The "Life-Connecting Dog and Cat Photo and Video Contest" started in 2010 with the aim of letting many people know that there is an option not to buy lives, and to provide an opportunity for as many dogs and cats as possible to find happiness.

Many entries are submitted each year to this contest, which is based on the concept of "Adopt, don't buy." In fiscal year 2025, the number of entries reached 1,405, and a photo exhibition was held to display the winning and selected works. We delivered the happy faces of dogs and cats to many people.

This time, we welcome Mr. Takuya Ishikawa, Director of the Animal Welfare and Management Office, General Affairs Division, Nature Conservation Bureau, Ministry of the Environment, who is newly joining as a judge with the support of the Ministry of the Environment. The judging panel will consist of a total of seven members, including Chairman Yasumichi Morita (Designer/Representative of GLAMOROUS co.,ltd.), Hachini (a duo of photographers known for the Hacchan series), contemporary artist JUNICHI, painter/creator Pepe Shimada, cat photographer Masayuki Oki, and Kunihisa Sagami, Chairman of Doubutsu Kikin, who will select the winning and selected works.
