NTT Docomo (hereinafter, Docomo) has introduced identity verification using the Public Personal Authentication Service (hereinafter, JPKI *1) with My Number Cards for online application procedures for "dCard®", starting from April 23, 2026 (Thursday), with the aim of improving convenience and strengthening the prevention of fraudulent use.

Identity verification for new credit card applications is strictly required based on the Act on Prevention of Transfer of Criminal Proceeds, and it is important to introduce appropriate identity verification methods for non-face-to-face transactions, anticipating future legal revisions. In light of this situation, Docomo has decided to add identity verification using JPKI to improve the convenience of "dCard" applications while appropriately complying with laws and regulations.

JPKI is a mechanism that verifies identity using electronic certificates recorded on the IC chip of My Number Cards, which helps prevent fraud such as forgery of identity verification documents, impersonation by third parties, and alteration of information. By introducing this method, the mailing or physical verification of identity documents, which was previously sometimes necessary, becomes unnecessary, allowing identity verification for "dCard" online application procedures to be completed entirely online. This will enable customers to apply online with greater peace of mind and shorten the period from application to service commencement.

Docomo has already introduced JPKI for "d払い®" and "dアカウント®", and by adding the same identity verification method to "dCard" this time, it aims to achieve both security assurance and improved convenience for online application procedures.

Identity verification using JPKI is available on devices compliant with the supported OS versions of the "dCard" app and Android™ NFC*2 compatible models. For cases where JPKI cannot be used, applications can still be made using conventional identity verification methods.

Docomo will continue to strive to provide services that can be used with peace of mind, balancing customer convenience and security.

About Identity Verification Using Public Personal Authentication Service (JPKI)

1. Overview

JPKI is a mechanism that verifies identity in online procedures using "signature electronic certificates" and "user authentication electronic certificates" recorded on the IC chip of My Number Cards. It helps prevent fraud such as forgery of identity verification documents, impersonation by third parties, and alteration of information, allowing for more secure online procedures. Furthermore, by introducing this method, the mailing or physical verification of identity documents, which was previously sometimes necessary, becomes unnecessary, and identity verification procedures can be completed entirely online.
