DMM.com LLC (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO of Innovation Company: Yu Ogata; hereinafter 'DMM') has been entrusted as the designated manager for the 'English Exchange Center PLAT ABC,' established by Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture (Mayor: Yoshihiko Fukuda; hereinafter 'Iwakuni City') in 2022. We are pleased to announce that we held an event from March 21st to 22nd to commemorate the 4th anniversary of its opening. The facility has become an indispensable part of the local community as a place for Japanese and English learning and cross-cultural exchange.
About the English Exchange Center 'PLAT ABC': The facility has engaged in various initiatives, including operating a cafe, providing opportunities for Japanese and English learning, and serving as an information counter for foreign residents. Furthermore, we have hosted over 430 diverse events to date, incorporating crafts, exercise, and cultural elements to ensure that even those who feel that learning English or Japanese is daunting can enjoy themselves.
New Initiatives for Fiscal Year 2025: 'English Boot Camp' This year, we launched the 'English Boot Camp,' an intensive training program aimed at improving English proficiency over approximately six months, featuring courses for both beginners and advanced learners.
- For Beginners: Real-world practice at the military base food court. Participants visited the food court at the Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to practice ordering food entirely in English. This provided a valuable opportunity to experience the joy of cross-cultural communication.
- For Advanced Learners: Mastering business English using the latest AI tools. Led by a native speaker from a university in Hiroshima, this course focused on 'English proficiency x AI utilization,' teaching participants how to achieve results in business settings using AI tools.
4th Anniversary Celebration: Accelerating Regional Revitalization To celebrate the 4th anniversary, we expanded activities for children, such as drone candy fishing, alongside popular events like manga live painting and guest talk shows. We also collaborated with the 'IWAKUNI FURUGI MARKET' held on the west side of Iwakuni Station, contributing to the festive atmosphere across both sides of the station. We look forward to continuing to serve as a hub for regional exchange and promoting the charm of Iwakuni.
